Right Zoom for Mac OS X 1.5 (freeware by BlazingTools Software)
Right Zoom utility is created for people who don't like a default behaviour of green
Zoom button in Mac OS X programs. This small program changes its behaviour, so
a green button will always maximize your windows instead of inconvenient resizing.
The program changes a behaviour of most used applications like Finder, Safari, MS
Word/Excel/PowerPoint, Pages, Numbers. These applications are most annoying
examples of inconvenient zoom button behaviour. You can extend the list with your
own applications. You can also use Command + Option (alt) + E keys to maximize
the current active window in most applications. You can set this Zoom button
behaviour for all applications, just edit program options. The program wasn't tested
it every application, so don't expect it to be ideal.
Installation: copy the program into Programs folder and run it. You will need to
enter your Administrator password (in Mac OS X 10.5) to allow the program to
interact with other applications. If you have Mac OS X 10.4, you will need to check
«Enable access for assistive devices» checkbox in System Preferences >
Universal access before using the program.
If you would like to use this program every time your system starts, open System
Preferences > Accounts > Login Items and drag the program into an application list
there.
The program runs without a graphical interface and takes minimum of system
resources. If you would like to stop the program, enter
killall RightZoom in Terminal, or close the program with Utilities > System Monitor.
Removal: just close the application and delete the program.
If you would like to add the same zoom button behaviour to any new application,
just edit Options.plist file inside program's bundle and add your application name(s)
there (you can see the exact name in the first menu item of your application, which
is displayed in bold font). Then restart the program. You can also add the
applications where RightZoom is working incorrectly in Exceptions list.
You can also disable a hotkey or choose a new key instead of default Cmd +
Option (alt) + E (in a range A-Z with Command, Ctrl, Shift, Option or their mixes).
Plist file can be edited with TextEdit or any other text editor. We recommend Plist
Editor from Apple Xcode Tools, or third-party editor like
