Be', non penso purtroppo che risolverai il problema. Forse, se questa amica è "ritardata" come dici ha usato come password le solite cose che non si dovrebbero usare perché ovvie (data di nascita, numero di telefono, nome di morosi, cani, gatti etc.). Temo siamo ridotti alla frutta...

• the words "password", "passcode", "admin" and their derivatives

• the name of their significant other, a friend, relative or pet

• their automobile license plate number, or a friend's, or a relative's
• a name of a celebrity they like

Personal data about individuals are now available from various sources, many on-line, and can often be obtained by someone using social engineering techniques, such as posing as an opinion surveyor or a security control checker. Attackers who know the user may have information as well. For example, if a user chooses the password "YaleLaw78" because he graduated from Yale Law School in 1978, a disgruntled business partner might be able to guess the password.

In ogni caso non lo aprirà nessuno, finché non inventano qualche altro tipo di hack... (tranne i servizi segreti...).
Purtroppo in rete trovi solo conferme, comprese pubblicità che bisogna leggere bene; un esempio,
Guaranteed PDF Decrypter per Mac:
remove the PDF open password. Decryption of the file with password for opening is guaranteed for PDF files with 40-bit key only (Acrobat 3, 4 compatible encryption). This process takes several days on one home computer.
To open a document with 128 or 256-bit key, only PDF brute force software can be used.

in laboratorio c'è un computer unico,per cui c'è chi pensa sia meglio rendere personali i suoi documenti..in ogni caso significa che non puoi più rimuoverlo.....?cmq guapdf mi sembrava ci fosse anche per i 128bit solo che non c'è per mac

Mi spiace... ripeto comunque: tieni nel dovuto conto che, se è una tua amica (= persona di cui conosci molte informazioni personali), vale la pena di provare con le password ovvie cui mi riferivo sopra. Magari l'hai già fatto.
Certo, se usa un generatore di password...
Per inciso l'avevo scaricato anch'io....
