Ho trovato alcune segnalazioni in rete dello stesso problema; riguardano anche un G4 e un G5 e anche il risveglio dallo stop può produrlo, non solo l'avvio. Purtroppo in nessun caso viene proposta una soluzione poi confermata. Questo è un riassunto delle possibilità (riguarda un G5 ma è lo stesso):

Re: the G5 CD drawer opening at startup: My guess is that that G5 has it's startup preference set to a System on a CD...go to System preferences/Startup Disk and switch it to your hard drive.

It sounds to me like the eject button on the front of the DVD drive is stuck, or shorted. When a disc is inserted, the Mac locks it into the drive, but when the computer reboots, it resets the drive, which then checks to see if the button is pressed, and ejects the tray.

Are you using a USB to PS/2 adapter on the machine? If you unplug your keyboard and mouse does the problem go away?

Most Macs open the tray on bootup if you hold down a mouse button during the boot sequence.
This happened to me when my Mac was brand new and I had not yet removed the plastic adhesive film from the mouse. It's also been known to happen if a USB hub is defective and the Mac thinks there's a mouse button held down at boot time.
Avrai già controllato, penso, in Visore Tastiera se qualche tasto risulta attivo anche se non è premuto (anche se sulla mia F12 non risulta attivo nemmeno se lo premo...). Un reset della PRAM male non farebbe in ogni caso.
