E' stata rilasciata la versione Mac OS X di un favoloso programma per la criptazione dati disponibile fino a poco tempo fa solo per Windows e Linux. Al momento la versione e' solo in lingua inglese ma sono in contatto con i produttori del software Open-Source per la possibilita' di creare una localizzazione italiana con relativo tutorial Mac OS X ad-hoc (Inglese e Italiano).
Il programma e' stato progettato per la protezione dei dati personali tramite cifratura. Questa nuova versione aggiunge una funzione molto interessante: permette di proteggere i dati contenuti su una partizione o su un intero disco rigido (anche dispositivi esterni come le chiavette USB).
Grazie a questa nuova caratteristica, TrueCrypt può ora competere con applicazioni commerciali dedicate. La cifratura dei dati avviene in tempo reale ed è completamente trasparente.
Tra gli algoritmi usati per cifrare i dati, troviamo: AES (chiave a 256 bit), Blowfish (chiave a 448-bit), CAST5 (chiave a 128 bit), Serpent (chiave a 256 bit), Triple DES e Twofish (chiave a 256-bit). E' anche possibile sfruttare alcuni algoritmi combinati in modo da rendere il livello di cifratura ancora più elevato.
Il software e' compatibile con Mac OS X Tiger e Mac OS X Leopard (sia PowerPC che Intel), ma non esiste, almeno per il momento, una Universal Binary.
