Problema con HD firewire esterno e iMac

Ciao a tutti.

Ho acquistato un HDD esterno con connesione FireWire (MyBook Western Digital Home Edition 500 GB) per usarlo con Time Machine.

Il problema è che se lo collego alla FireWire del iMac 20" (Alluminium) con SO Leopard 10.5.3, l'hard disk viene totalmente ignorato, non compare alcun icona sul Desktop, come se non avessi inserito nulla.

Se invece lo collego al portatile MacBook 13 (sempre con SO Leopard 10.5.3), tutto funziona perfettamente.

N.B. Con l'USB invece tutto funziona perfettamente, ed infatti l'ho potuto formattare x Mac (Journaled) collegandolo cosi.

Non ditemi di usare l'USB perchè l'ho preso appunto per la FireWire e comunque ho le porte tutte occupate...

Avete qualche idea su quale possa essere il problema?

Posso comunque dirvi che la porta FW sembra funzionare dato che la uso per collegarci l'ipod.

aggiorna a mac OS X 10.5.4, ma prima fai un reset SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543?viewlocale=it_IT

se non basta:
1) in monitoraggio attività esci dai seguenti processi: socketfilterfw e SystemUIServer.
2) fai un reset pram/nvram (tasti cmd+alt+P+R).
3) ripara i permessi con utility disco.

Niente... ho provato prima il reset SMC + aggiornamento a 10.5.4 e nessun cambiamento: l'hd parte per poi spegnersi senza comparire sul desktop;

Poi sono uscito dai due processi che mi hai detto (il secondo lo fermo, ma non scompare comunque dalla lista, mentre il primo si) ed ho riprovato, ma niente;

Poi ho fatto il reset pram/nvram con i 4 tasti premuti all'avvio e non è cambiato nulla;

il punto 3) non l'ho capito, comunque l'hd non lo vedo con nessuna utility.

Non so cosa fare, l'hd collegato fw su un altro mac va e la fw del iMac va con iPod, come può essere che collegati insieme non funzionino???
Ho notato che se lascio l'hd collegato con la fw e provo o ad accendere o spegnere il Mac questo rimane piantato finché non stacco il cavo. In pratica sembrano dialogare fra di loro, ma in maniera "sbagliata".

Avete qualche altro suggerimento? Grazie in anticipo del vostro tempo!

le cose da fare erano quelle, ora senti l'assistenza apple. inutile consigliarti un hardware test perchè non serve a molto in un caso simile (serve il test che fanno in assistenza, diverso dal nostro). puoi anche reinstallare il sistema, ipotesi da non scartare, ma non mi sento di suggerirla come soluzione sicura del problema. anzi.



FireWire connection dropouts: more fixes (18.06.2008 )

After the installation of software updates, the FireWire ports on various Mac models may cease to properly function, not recognizing devices or exhibiting other issues. For some users, this has occurred with printer driver updates and for others it has occurred with the latest QuickTime update. One MacFixIt reader reinstalled Leopard and the problem still occurred.

The problem has persisted through several Leopard OS updates. Sometimes it knocks out all firewire connections, and other times it just seems to affect FireWire 400 ports only, leaving FireWire 800 ports working until the FireWire 400 ports are given significant load:

Reset the FireWire controller Shut down the computer and unplug all peripheral devices, and let the computer sit for 3-5 minutes. Then start the computer back up and plug in the peripheral devices again, one at a time.

Quit processes Launch Activity Monitor and force quit these processes:

socketfilterfw (this is the computer firewall)
SystemUIServer (this should restart after quitting)
This worked for one user, who regained functionality of his FireWire 400 ports after quitting these processes. Since the first process listed is the FireWall, it could be that the firewall is interfering with the FireWire bus, since FireWire can be used for networking. People might try turning off the firewall in the "Security" system preferences, or removing the FireWire ports from the "Network" system preferences.

Reset the computer's PRAM, fix permissions, and other standard procedures If nothing else works, reset the PRAM and use Disk Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities to run routine permissions fixes on the boot drive. It may be that the FireWire port is broken, but these standard fixes might help before taking the computer in for servicing.

In order to reset PRAM/NVRAM, shut down your Mac, then start it back up while immediately holding the following keys: Command, Option, P and R. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
