con l'odierna uscita della versione 5.1.7 segnalo GutenPrint che sono drivers per stampanti. ricordate il progetto Gimp-Print? questo è il progetto che eredita e continua lo sviluppo. sono ottimi driver e diventano "fondamentali" quanto il produttore della stampante non ha provveduto a scrivere il software per il sistema operativo che stiamo utilizzando. (e questo purtroppo succede spesso).

sono compatibili con mac OS 10.2 fino a 10.5 (leopard). la lista delle stampanti supportate è la seguente ed è in continua crescita: http://gutenprint.sourceforge.net/p_Supported_Printers.php

installazione e disinstallazione (grazie ad un comodo unistaller) sono davvero semplici, vi segnalo che tali drivers sono anche presenti nel dvd di installazione delle nostre macchine a conferma della loro validità. (installazioni opzionali/drivers)

Gutenprint - 5.2.0-rc1


What's new in this version:
cups-genppdupdate now preserves the language of the original PPD file, even if the PPD file is being converted to a globalized PPD file. This enables use of cups-genppdupdate -loriginal to restore the previous language of the PPD file. Note that cups-genppdupdate -l changes the stored language of the PPD file.
The CUPS driver correctly prints page sizes larger than letter on PCL printers (this was broken in 5.2.0-beta4 only).
The CD position on the R1900 has been corrected.
Printing on the Epson Stylus DX8400/DX8450 has been corrected (the CX8400 was corrected in the previous release). Previously, these printers fed paper endlessly without printing.
The user manual has been updated.
Color and tonal correctness at low and medium resolutions has been fixed on many Epson Stylus multi-function devices

Guten print 5.2.4 rc1


Gutenprint 5.2.4-rc1 is a release candidate from the stable branch of Gutenprint 5.2. Gutenprint 5.2 no longer supports Macintosh OS X 10.2; it now requires 10.3 (Panther) or higher. Notable changes since the Gutenprint 5.2.3:

The packaging for Mac OS X has been changed:
Printer PPDs are no longer included in the download. The PPDs will be created during the installation process. This will add several minutes to the installation process. This change will reduce the download by over 30 MB.
There are now separate binaries for Leopard (OS X 10.5). The proper files will automatically be instlled based on the version of OS X on the boot disk.

nessun auto update. a mio parere la cosa migliore è rimuovere la versione precedente con l'apposito unistaller e installare la nuova. eventualmente togliere e ri-aggiungere la stampante.
