Do one or more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Verify that you have sufficient disk space and if not, clear disk space on the target drive or install to a drive with sufficient disk space.
Refer to the System Requirements information for the Creative Suite you are installing. Make sure you are installing to a volume the that meets the minimum requirements. System requirement information is listed on the Adobe.com product pages http://www.adobe.com/products.

Solution 2: Remove pre-release Adobe software.
On Mac OS:

Browse to /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers/.
Run uninstaller applications for any Beta or Pre-Release Adobe software.

Solution 3: Unlock locked fonts. (Mac OS only)
Creative Suite 3 installs fonts, before doing so it checks the file versions to make sure that the font that is being copied is newer than the font that is already present. However if the installer cannot read the font because it is locked or damaged the installer will fail. When this has occurred the error log will say,

[ 14] Fri Apr 27 14:30:08 2007 ERROR
Unable to read Adobe file version for path /Library/Fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf
[ 14] Fri Apr 27 14:30:08 2007 FATAL
JavaScript processing failed with error:
Uncaught JavaScript exception: Unable to read Adobe file version for path /Library/Fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf
[ 14] Fri Apr 27 14:30:08 2007 DEBUG

To unlock system fonts on the Macintosh you need to be the root user. To enable the root user:

In the Finder, choose Go > Utilities.
Double-click NetInfo Manager.
Click the lock in the NetInfo Manager window to permit changes, enter the administrator name and password, and then click OK.
Choose Security > Enable Root User.
Click OK to the alert indicating that the password is blank.
In Mac OS v. 10.3, type the password in the Password and verification boxes, then click OK.
Click OK to the alert indicating that you must re-authenticate to make additional changes. The root user is now enabled.
Click the lock to save the change, and then quit NetInfo Manager.
Note: To disable the root account, repeat steps 1-4 above after the root account is enabled, except in step 4, choose Disable Root User.

To log in as the root user:

Choose Log Out from the Apple menu.
Choose Other... in the log in window.
Type Root in the Name field, and type the password you created.
Unlock system fonts:

Browse to /Library/Fonts
Right click on the fonts mentioned in the install log
Uncheck the "Locked" checkbox
Log out and log in as your normal user then install Creative Suite 3 again
Note: Alternatively if you suspect the font is damaged (which can also cause this error) you can move the font out to the desktop or a temporary folder.

Solution 4: Check the installation media.
Creative Suite 3 installer may fail if the Creative Suite 3 disk is bad or damaged or if the computer drive is defective.

On Mac OS, the error log might include:

[ 8] Wed May 2 10:28:26 2007 INFO
Completing installation for payload at /Volumes/Adobe CS3 Design Premium/Adobe CS3 Design Premium/payloads/AdobePhotoshop10en_US/AdobePhotoshop10en_US.dmg
[ 8] Wed May 2 10:28:26 2007 DEBUG
InstallPayload failed.

On Windows check the Event Viewer (information on doing this is near the top of this article) for critical install errors.

To check the installation media:

Test install media on a different computer. If install media works on a different computer, then the issue could be with the filesystem or disk drive.
Mac OS only: Check package integrity:
Browse to the Adobe CS3 Design Premium/payloads/<package mentioned in the error log.
Drag the .dmg file to the desktop.
Double click on the .dmg file.
If package integrity fails, then proceed to Step 5.
Attempt a desktop installation. For more information on doing a desktop install with Creative Suite 3, see "Install Adobe Creative Suite 3 from the desktop (Mac OS X) " (Technote kb400613) or "Install Adobe Creative Suite 3 from the desktop (Windows XP and Windows Vista)" (TechNote kb400609).
Check for warping, smudges or discolor on the back of the disk.
Clean the DVD with a soft, lint-free cloth and then try to install Creative Suite 3. If the installation fails, then contact Adobe Customer Services at 1-800-833-6687 for replacement media.

Solution 5: Move the unexpected directory (Mac OS only).
You might see the message, "Unexpected directory found instead of a file or symlink at <directory>" in the error log. This is a Macintosh only issue where the installer tries to set permissions on a linked folder, however instead of a linked folder a real folder exists. The error log indicates:

78 Set
[ 2] Wed May 2 09:34:02 2007 ERROR
Unexpected directory found instead of a file or symlink at /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Recommended
[ 2] Wed May 2 09:34:02 2007 FATAL
JavaScript processing failed with error:
Uncaught JavaScript exception: Unexpected directory found instead of a file or symlink at /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Recommended
[ 2] Wed May 2 09:34:02 2007 DEBUG
Rolling back prior actions...

To move the unexpected directory:

Note: Folder name or directory may vary.

Navigate to /Library/ColorSync/Profiles
Move the Recommended folder out to the desktop.
Reinstall CS3.

Ho dato un'occhiata al log e mi sa che devo applicare la soluzione 8, cioè cancellare i componenti Cs3. A questo punto rinuncio e provo su un'altra macchina
