Ciao a tutti! Ho un problema che mi sta facendo perdere la pazienza: un vecchio G3 (B&W)-350MHz-256MB ram-scheda video ATY128 (quella originale, credo) con Panther, non si avvia piu': continua a bloccarsi mostrando la classica schermata di kernel panic. L'unico modo per farlo avviare e' utilizzare il safe-boot. Ho provato a riparare permessi, controllare hd in modalita' singolo utente (anche se di fatto erano ok), accendere senza tastiera/mouse, lasciare l'unico banco di ram apple... Praticamente tutto quello consigliato nel tutorial... Secondo voi, devo per forza ricorrere all'archivia e installa??? Sono riuscito a recuperare questo log, se puo' essere utile:

Alle 11.07 ho provato ad avviarlo: kernel panic. Poco dopo l'ho avviato in safe boot senza problemi. Ah, il mac ha funzionato bene fino all'ultima volta in cui e' stato acceso!

Purtroppo il log è per la stragrande parte relativo all'avvio in safe boot, solo le prime due o tre righe sono riferite al KP (manca tutto quello che succede prima).
Non perderci dietro troppo tempo, archivia e installa, non perdi niente (quasi) e probabilmente risolvi.

PS+OT: Come va la gamba?

:) Ecco un log in questa sequenza: avvio -> kernel panic, avvio in modalita' safe boot, avvio ->kernel panic, avvio in modalita' safe boot... Mi scuso molto per la lunghezza del post ma ho preferito non tagliare nulla, nel caso fosse di aiuto.
In ogni caso, uff, e' gia' successo qualche mese fa questo incoveniente: non ho molta voglia di "archiviare & installare" ogni 4-5 mesi: questo mac stara' acceso si e no un'ora alla settimana (internet,posta elettronica e poco altro)... Senza contare che mi tocca star li' a collegare il vecchio cdrom Apple, poiche' dal masterizzatore che gli ho montato non mi fa fare il boot...

Il piede rotto va benone, GRAZIE :) ! Certo che le stampelle sono una rottura, non le avevo mai provate... Pero' la cosa piu' brutta di tutto cio' sono le punture giornaliere che mi devo fare sulla pancia... :?

Niente da fare, non si avvia: sempre k.p. Ho provato anche l'applicazione AppleJack in modalita' singolo utente, ma dopo aver riparato i dischi e' crashata dicendo: panic, we're hanging here...

P.S.: dato che sembra non esserci altra soluzione che "archivia e installa", qualcuno sa come fare il boot dal 1° cd di panther anche se il lettore cd del G3 non e' piu' quello originale Apple (e' un masterizzatore LiteOn se non ricordo male...)? :???:

Perchè? Non si avvia dal CD tenendo premuto il tasto C? Oppure scegliendo il CD come disco di avvio?

No, non si avvia da cdrom ne' tenendo premuto C all'avvio ne' selezionando il cd come disco di avvio (in modalita' safe boot ovviamente)... Tutto funziona se al posto del masterizzatore che ho installato nel mac, sostituisco il lettore cd originale Apple... Boh, dipendera' dal disco di installazione di Panther? (copia che mi aveva lasciato in omaggio chi aveva precedentemente il mac...)

P.S.: anzi, a dirla tutta, non fa il boot nemmeno da un masterizzatore firewire esterno che utilizzo con il mio iMac G5...

Se hai una copia del system e non l'originale, potrebbe essere un problema, ma non è detto; con lo stesso tuo Mac, che ho ancora (anche se un pò "taroccato"), per fortuna ho un lettore DVD di serie (uno dei primi credo) che mi ha permesso di installare Tiger, perchè inizialmente ci avevo provato con il LaCie FireWire esterno e non andava; poi ho messo a posto anche quello con un aggiornamento firmware e ora lo riconosce anche per l'avvio.
Domanda stupida: quanto spazio hai ancora sull'hard disk?

EDIT: per il firmware prova a guardare Qui (http://www.liteonit.com/global/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=154)

In "category" metti "optical storage", poi scegli il modello del tuo masterizzatore e quindi fai "search" e vedi se c'è qualche aggiornamento ...

Ho provato a guardare e c'e' un aggiornamento di marzo 2006 ("match more media") e quindi non credo mi sara' utile... Non ho molta voglia di provare anche perche' dovrei smontarlo dal mac per metterlo sul pc per aggiornare il fw... Come ho scritto prima l'hd e' da 40GB e ce ne sono liberi una trentina...

P.S.: poco fa ho collegato il vecchio lettore apple, ho fatto il boot da cd e con utility disco ho riparato dischi/privilegi ma ahime' non ha trovato nulla fuori posto. E' pero' successa una cosa strana: dopo essere uscito dall'installer e aver riavviato, il mac e' partito senza problemi da hd... Al successivo riavvio pero', boom: di nuovo kernel panic. :x

non riesco a capire se si tratta di un iMac ma suppongo di si e che sia già una macchina di tipo "NewWorld".

Prova a cambiare la piletta tampone, sui Mac un pò vecchiotti, dopo aver fatto i vari zap della PRAM e NVRAM risolve parecchi problemi.
